The Arcorail Bed Rail is an adult size bed rail that is used as a support for getting up and down of bed.
Other than getting in and out of bed, the bed rail is also used as a handle for holding onto for readjusting one’s position in bed. At the same time, the bed rail acts as a secure rail to prevent adults from accidentally falling out of their beds.
The Arcorail Bed Rail rotates 360o, with 4 locking positions, one at every a 90o position. This offers additional mobility to users who require more support and it is also very useful for helping patients transfer from their wheelchairs to the bed. And because the rail is rotatable, it can be turned out of the way while making the bed even though the rail does not fold down.
The height of the bed rail is also adjustable between 25 to 27 inches, with one inch increments. This helps to accommodate users of different heights. However, the rotation of the rail is not exactly easy to use. The user rotates the rail by 90o, locks it so that it is firm and supports the person’s weight properly. But then with your weight still resting on the rail, rotating the rail a second time becomes a problem. You have to unlock the rail to rotate it again, but you can’t very well unlock it when resting your weight on it. But the rail is probably not meant for rotating multiple times for you to get from one point to another.
The Arcorail Bed Rail installs on the bed frame for support, but only onto metal bed frames. The Arcorail also comes in to different models, the hospital bed model and the home bed model. The home bed model comes with additional attachments so that the bed rail can be attached onto common beds at home. The bed rail requires a fair amount of assembly and screwing of the attachment onto the bed frame. Luckily the assembly is straightforward, although the entire rail weighs nearly 10 kg; not all that easy to hoist and install.
The Arcorail is compatible with from single beds up to queen sized beds. It is capable of withstanding up to 250 lbs of weight, which is much heavier than most people. But there are people weighing in excess of 250 Ibs, and the Arcorail is not designed to support such heavy weights. Furthermore, the weight capacity refers to the limitation of the rail material, not the stability of the hold. A small bed will serve as a small counterweight, and will not be able to provide support for people weighing more than the bed itself.
The Arcorail Bed Rail is ideal for adults who suffer from dizzy spells, especially when rising from bed; people who have weakness in their legs or those recovering from illness or surgery. It provides good support to the user and also prevents falls. It is relatively small and therefore does not cause inconvenience to the care giver. The Arcorail Bed Rail does not come with fancy add-ons like bed side pouches or cup holders, but if you’re looking for simple, Arcorail is a good choice for you.
